Associate Postgraduate Dean – Forensic Science

Hours: Part Time, 1 PA (4 hours per week)

Duration: Fixed Term / Secondment until 31 March 2025

Location: This is a flexible location post.


NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.

This will be across 1 PA of time (1 PA = 4 hours)

The Associate Postgraduate Dean will influence on a national basis the educational agenda for those that examine and care for victims of rape and sexual assault. Design, deliver and evaluate the Essentials in Sexual Offences Management & Court Skills for Doctors carrying out sexual offence examinations, and for forensically trained nurses supporting the examination as well as ongoing updates for the wider Forensic Medical Service in Scotland.

  • Must be a consultant, senior career grade doctor, or General Practitioner working at a senior career level in the NHS MB, ChB or equivalent
  • Appropriate higher qualification, e.g. MD, PhD, Fellowship, or equivalent experience
  • Must have current experience working as a Sexual Offences Examiner
  • Experience of training and assessment methodology
  • Broad understanding of GMC quality frameworks
  • Practical experience of training at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Significant knowledge and experience of the postgraduate medical training process
  • Experience as a Speciality Adviser, Training Programme Director, Postgraduate Tutor or other position involving training responsibility is desirable
  • Ongoing experience working as a Sexual Offences Examiner in Scotland
