Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.

The function of NES Technology Service is to develop and lead a programme of work and services that supports both the corporate functions that allow NES to work and deliver it strategic objective and to deliver against Scotland’s Digital Health and Care Strategy.

NES Technology Service (NTS) has been formed with the specific objective of consolidating NES’ information based expertise into a professional, focused centre for information and technical excellence.

It has created a strategic programme for the transformation of digital based services to allow NES to become a leading digital organisation in Scottish Health, digital by default and fully aligned with the Scottish Government’s technology strategies.

These responsibilities relate to the core functions of NES in the following areas:

  • Design, development, and operation of a technical environment and

  • Commensurate digital services to all NHS Scotland, Scottish Government And Care Sector


The Opportunity

The IT Service Desk is looking to recruit a Team Leader to contribute to the running of day to day operations within the NES Technology IT Service Desk.

This exciting new opportunity offers the successful candidate the chance to assist in the provision of Service Desk and Customer Services to IT Users throughout NES and other partner agencies.  

The successful candidate will be expected to actively lead, motivate and contribute to the IT Service Desk Team and ensure the continued provision of an excellent level of service to NES. The Team Leader will be required to deputise for the Service Desk Manager when required.

The successful applicant must be able to deliver duties and support services in a reliable, dependable manner ensuring customer satisfaction at all times.

Excellent communication skills are paramount as is the ability to assist IT users.

Essential qualities for this post include good team skills, prioritising workload and the ability to work to a deadline. Previous management of staff is desired.

The post requires education to diploma level, preferably in the IT field or an equivalent level of knowledge. In addition, you must be willing to travel to NES Locations across Scotland to support team members.  NES locations are Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow, your main base will be the closes to your home address.

What We Love to See

Team Leaders offer a broad range of skills and experience, if you can offer some or all of these, we’d love you to apply:

  • Support and line management of Service Desk staff

  • Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the Service Desk

  • Asset Management (including stock control)

  • Regular travel to regional sites to support Service Desk staff

  • Deputise in the absence of the Service Desk manager

  • Ability to understand a range of work procedures and practices which require analysis and are associated with the role

  • Service improvement - work proactively, suggesting and implementing changes to local procedures and processes to improve efficiency

  • Demonstrate honesty, integrity, care and compassion when dealing with others, utilising tact and persuasion skills when necessary

  • Ability to work on own initiative, to organise and prioritise own workloads, to meet strict deadlines
