Applications are invited for a twelve month LAT post (or LAS/clinical fellow) (ST3 level or above) in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics /General Internal Medicine based in the Medicines Monitoring Unit (MEMO Research) and Hypertension Research Centre (HRC), Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
This post offers an opportunity to gain experience in clinical pharmacology and therapeutics including clinical trials, other clinical research, cardiovascular risk and medicine.
The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of six clinical academic CPT consultants and will work alongside clinical research fellows and trainees from related specialties. MEMO Research and HRC has close links and collaborations with GPs, university and NHS centres across the UK and Europe. It is one of the most successful clinical trial centres in the UK and has expertise in large pragmatic and decentralised clinical trials. Dundee has an international reputation in data science, pharmacogenomics and precision medicine and is part of the Scotland HDR-UK and FARR Scotland collaborations. CPT and GIM training will take place in Ninewells Hospital which has an Acute Medical Unit, general medicine/specialty wards and outpatient services including a cardiovascular risk clinic.
CPT has an outstanding academic track record and allows flexibility to pursue clinically relevant, medicines-focused research and integrate it with clinical practice. Opportunities to develop research interests and work collaboratively with existing researchers range from lab to clinically based research, clinical trials, drug safety (clinical toxicology, pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology) and data science (big data).
NHS Tayside provides services for approximately 450,000 people in Tayside and NE Fife. Dundee is the fourth principal city in Scotland and is situated on the north bank of the River Tay. It is Scotland's only south-facing city, resulting in it being Scotland's sunniest and warmest city. It is conveniently near the three other large cities. By rail or road, it is just over an hour from Edinburgh and Aberdeen and an hour and half from Glasgow.
Candidates should possess a medical degree and MRCP (UK) or equivalent. Full registration with a licence to practice with the GMC is required.
