Consultant in Perinatal Psychiatry

Job Ref: EG121622

Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, Part-time (32 hours per week) post.

This is a part-time post (8 Programmed Activities) working alongside our multi-disciplinary team of professionals providing a Perinatal Mental Health service to the population of Grampian, which includes Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City and Moray. The Community Perinatal Mental Health Team (CPMHT) launched in March 2022 and remains under development following investment by the Scottish Government.

This is an exciting time for the development of Perinatal & Infant Mental Health services within Grampian. We are launching a number of these services under the overarching service title of Parent and Infant Mental Health Services (PIMHS). You’ll find more information about PIMHS here: Parent and Infant Mental Health Services (PIMHS) (nhsgrampian.org).

The post will be based at the Fern building, Elmwood site, Aberdeen, collaborating with a newly formed and thriving multidisciplinary CPMHT. The Fern building, situated between Royal Cornhill Hospital and Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, is our team base and forms a neutral location between the two sites for the delivery of face-to-face appointments. Although this is our base, we aim to provide face-to-face appointments throughout the Northeast. The team are delighted with the spacious surroundings and have embraced hybrid ways of working including the use of remote consultations via NearMe.

The post holder will manage a caseload with the CPMHT and work in close collaboration with the CPMHT and the regional mother and baby units. The post holder will become integral to the PIMHS Leadership team which focuses on the strategic direction of the developing services. A future aim for the newly launched service is to obtain accreditation through the Perinatal Quality Network. Lisa Malcolmson, Regional Nurse Consultant is the clinical lead for the Perinatal Mental Health Service. NHS Grampian have close working relationships with Orkney and Shetland as part of the development of Perinatal and Infant Mental Health services, and the post holder may be required to provide Snr clinical leadership to these island boards.

The appointee will be expected to participate in the Royal Cornhill Hospital out-of-hours Consultant on-call rota which has junior and middle grade doctor levels as well as nurse practitioners.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
