Assistant Fire Safety Advisor
This post is permanent

About the Organisation:
National Services Scotland (NSS) is a national NHS Board operating right at the heart of NHSScotland providing invaluable support and advice at a strategic and operational level.  NSS supports customers to deliver their services more efficiently and effectively and we offer shared services on a national scale using best-in-class systems and standards. Our priority is always the same – to improve the health and well-being of the people of Scotland. We do this by working in partnership with colleagues across Health and Social Care to deliver fit for purpose solutions and systems, delivering high quality services that help our stakeholders to free up resources so they can be re-invested into essential services.

The Post:
As a vital part of NHSScotland, NHS National Services Scotland’s purpose is to enable and support the delivery of better health and better care, working in partnership. We do this by providing a range of specialised support services that enable NHS Boards to focus their efforts on delivering health improvement and patient care.
NHSScotland Assure is the new centre of expertise focusing on quality in the built environment through providing a suite of new services whilst also encompassing the existing services provided by Health Facilities Scotland and ARHAI (Antimicrobial Resistance Healthcare Associated Infection). Health Facilities Scotland is part of NHS National Services Scotland and provides operational guidance to NHSScotland healthcare bodies on all facilities topics.

The Candidate:
As part of the continued development of NHSScotland Assure, a new Assistant Fire Safety Advisor role has been developed to help support the Architecture and Design team within Health Facilities Scotland. This is a highly professional, senior and autonomous team comprising National Fire Safety Advisors, Architects and Structural Engineering, and will be complemented by this new role as we continue to develop our new range of services and enhance existing services as part of the development of NHSScotland Assure.

The team is responsible for the NHSScotland Design Assessment Process (NDAP), it’s implementation and development, as well as providing subject matter expert advice for Key Stage Assurance Reviews (KSAR). The team is also responsible for all relevant Health Facilities Scotland guidance documentation, including its development and revision as well as any associated research streams.

We are looking for a qualified professional, with a degree, in a fire safety subject or an equivalent demonstrable amount of experience, who will be responsible for supporting the National Fire Safety Advisors and their workstreams. However, consideration may be given to candidates that do not have a fire related degree or fire safety experience if they can demonstrate a work ethic and commitment to Continual Professional Development.

The post holder will be expected to work with other professionals and subject matter experts within Property and Capital Planning and Engineering, Environment and Decontamination. The post holder will also work with colleagues from other areas of NHSScotland Assure / HFS including Infection Control, FM, and Business Support.
