NHS Lanarkshire

Consultant Radiologist

NHS Lanarkshire invites applications for Consultant Diagnostic Radiologist posts to join our team of Consultant colleagues.

The posts will be based at one of the three acute hospital sites in NHS Lanarkshire. The posts are advertised at full-time 10 PA posts (including up to 2 non-DCC) however, opportunities for Extra Programmed activities are available. We would also welcome applications if wishing to work less than full time.

The successful applicants will contribute to an evening (until 6pm) and weekend daytime on call for general plain film, USS and CT (frequency of on-call being between 1:10 and 1:12). Outside these hours the on-call is outsourced with a “second-on” on-call rota of local radiologists maintained in case of IT issues.

Though these are general radiology posts, we would particularly encourage applicants with subspecialty interests in Lung, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, MSK or Breast imaging. An interest in performing image guided procedures (in particular diagnostic biopsies) and non-vascular intervention would also be most welcome.

The successful applicant would be welcomed into the pan-Lanarkshire service but by being site based, you will join a very supportive team of friendly hard working colleagues who work closely to deliver care to the patients of North and South Lanarkshire.

Lanarkshire is part of the West of Scotland Clinical Network and the majority of the MDTs work closely with Regional Cancer MDTs. Involvement in MDTs is strongly encouraged. Each hospital has strong links with Glasgow University and the University of Strathclyde. Under- and post-graduate education is an important part of the posts and many consultants are honorary Senior Lecturers at Glasgow University.

NHS Lanarkshire is situated to the east, south and south-west of Glasgow. As a result, it benefits its proximity to Scotland’s largest City and the Leisure, Sport and Entertainment opportunities this brings. However, it is also includes the beautiful Clyde Valley. The coast is nearby to West, Edinburgh is easily reached to the East, the Trossach’s National Park to the north or the Scottish Borders to the South. Glasgow, Prestwick and Edinburgh Airports are also within easy reach. Good schools and comparatively affordable housing are available nearby.

If you are interested in a rewarding career which offers variety and challenge whilst working within a cohesive team we would strongly recommend you arrange a visit or simply an informal chat by contacting: Dr J. Harper (Clinical Lead, UH Wishaw, 01698 366878), Mr Martin Downey (Associate Medical Director 01698 366176).

NHS Lanarkshire are happy to consider requests for this publication to be in another accessible format i.e. large print, braille, etc.  Please contact us via either of the undernoted methods clearly stating which format is required.

For any application queries, please contact Nicole Hetherington – Senior HR Assistant on 01698 754350 or via medical.dentalconsultant@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

Interviews are scheduled for: 28th February 2023.
