OUR VALUES IN ACTION

 • Care and Compassion Quality and Teamwork Dignity and Respect Openness, honesty and responsibility

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Band 7 Infection Prevention and Control Nurse.

The Infection Prevention and Control Team support NHS acute, community and mental health services as well as council-run and independent care homes.  This high profile role provides an interesting, varied and exciting opportunity as we progress the infection prevention and control agenda across the Scottish Borders.

We appreciate this may be a career change for you and will be an important decision.  We would love to welcome you to come and meet us and shadow one of our Infection Prevention and Control Nurses for a day to see if this role would appeal before you decide to apply.  Please call Sam Whiting, Infection Control Manager on 01896 826262 for a chat and to arrange a convenient day to visit.

With a minimum of 3 years experience working as a qualified nurse and living our organisational values, you will train to be a source of expert, specialist knowledge on Infection Control issues.  You will develop skills and influence attitudes and behaviours to support patient safety through the reduction in healthcare associated infection.

It is a requirement for this post to attain a post graduate Infection Control Diploma which we would fully fund and support you to complete.  Commencing as a trainee, (Agenda for Change Annex 21) you will progress to Band 7 on successful attainment of the Infection Control Diploma.  Failure to attain the Diploma within four years would result in redeployment to an alternative Band 6 nursing post within NHS Borders.  On completion of the Diploma, we would be happy to provide ongoing support to continue to progress to the MSc.

A trainee position’s pay is determined as a percentage of the pay for qualified staff, in accordance with Section 21 of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions.

For periods of training lasting for between one and four years, pay will be adjusted as follows:

  1. More than three years from completion of training; 60% of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate;
  2. More than two but less than three years prior to completion of training; 65% of the pay maximum for the qualified rate;
  3. More than one but less than two years prior to completion of training; 70% of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate;
  4. Up to twelve months prior to completion of training; 75% of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
