Education & Learning Officer

AfC Band 5  plus a High Secure Environmental Allowance of £1,390.20 per annum and a High Secure Clinical Responsibility Allowance of £3,336.48 per annum

37.5 Hours

Contract Duration – Fixed Term for 12 months

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to work within our Patient Learning Centre.  ​​​​​​​

The post holder will assist in leading the delivery of core skills and other education and learning programmes in line with the Hospital’s patient learning strategy.  You will develop and plan accredited learning programmes to support curriculum expansion.  You will engage patients in education and therapeutic activities through a learner centre approach.  You will support instructors and volunteers within the Patient Learning Centre, providing supervision and guidance on planning of learning activities and professional development.   You will also assist the Patient Learning Manager in providing support and specialist advice on education and learning to other staff groups involved in development and delivery of accredited learning programmes (e.g. activity centres, librarian, occupational therapy, psychological therapies).  You will be required to work collaboratively with other disciplines and activity centres to deliver a flexible service across the Skye Centre and Hubs within the hospital.


  • Educated to HND level or equivalent
  • Demonstrable experience working with adults in an educational/training/ community learning setting including previous experience of developing and delivering learning and educational programmes leading to national accredited qualifications.
  • With a qualification in education/training (e.g. PGCE,TQFE, CITP) or assessor unit qualification, you will have knowledge and understanding of awarding body approval and quality assurance standards for nationally recognised qualifications. 
  • You will have experience of delivering adult education, ideally in areas such as literacy, numeracy and ICT. 
  • You will have the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) qualification or equivalent IT skills. 
  • You must be able to demonstrate ability or have experience in a supervisory role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is a strong interest in promoting the inclusion of those with mental illness, learning disabilities, and negative experiences of formal education. 
  • You must be highly motivated and have a proven track record of delivering against targets and managing competing priorities and demands.
