About the Organisation:
The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) is the specialist provider of transfusion medicine in Scotland. We collect and supply blood, tissues, cells and services to hospitals. We work with communities, hospitals and professionals to ensure that the donor's gift is used wisely and effectively for the benefit of patients. Within SNBTS, Donor Services and Transport (DS&T) are responsible for the collection of blood, platelets and plasma from our donors.
SNBTS is a division of NHS National Services Scotland (NSS). NSS is a national NHS Board operating right at the heart of NHS Scotland (NHSS) providing support and advice at a strategic and operational level.
The post:
An exciting vacancy within SNBTS, we are looking for a candidate who will play a crucial role in ensuring that Scotland has a sufficient, safe and effective blood supply and in providing strong leadership for clinical staff within Donor Services and Transport.
The post carries a broad remit, including responsibility for donor selection and clinical governance in Donor Services & Transport and the supervision and line management of the donor medical team.
Suitably trained candidates will be expected to take part in the SNBTS national on-call rota (1 in 5 with prospective cover). An 8% availability supplement is also payable.
The candidate:
Candidates should be on the Specialist Register for Haematology or on the General Practice Register with experience in donor medicine.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme/Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
Candidates must have current GMC registration at the time of applying.
Location and working pattern:
Whilst the post is based at Jack Copland Centre, Edinburgh consideration will be given to those who would prefer to work at another SNBTS location.
10 sessions - Hours – 40 hrs per week
