POST TITLE: CONSULTANT HAEMATOLOGIST WITH AN INTEREST IN STEM CELL TRANSPLANTATION AND CELLULAR IMMUNOTHERAPIES
Base: SOUTH Glasgow University Hospitals Campus, GLASGOW
We are looking for a dynamic, motivated individual to join us in Glasgow. This job offers an exciting opportunity to provide cutting edge treatments in a rapidly evolving field. The successful candidate will join an existing team currently delivering a diverse range of established transplant and targeted cellular immunotherapies, complimented by a burgeoning research portfolio. Ongoing trials are investigating novel approaches to allogeneic stem cell transplantation, innovative second and third generation CAR-T cell therapies and the therapeutic role of engineered cellular subsets. These include γδ T cells, expanded polyspecific antiviral T cells and tumour infiltrating lymphocytes (TILS). The successful candidate would be expected to play a key role in shaping the future direction of the service, which promises an expansion of these activities and an ongoing commitment to collaborative translational research, including gene therapy. Successful candidate will be encouraged to apply for NHS Research Scotland funding.
The national service is designated and funded directly by the Scottish government. It is based in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and provides all Allogeneic Stem cell transplants and CAR-T therapy for Scotland, as well as autografts for the West of Scotland. It is one of the largest transplant centres in the UK and is an active ACT (formerly IMPACT) trial Centre. The team carries out 75-85 allogeneic transplants, 90-100 autografts and 20-30 CAR-T cell procedures per year, with a significant increase in CAR-T activity anticipated. This post will ultimately be one of seven consultant posts with an on-call rota of 1 in 6.
