University Hospital Monklands is looking for an enthusiastic pharmacy technician or student technician to join our aseptic pharmacy team! The successful candidate will provide pharmaceutical technical services predominantly within our brand-new aseptic unit. This role will involve the aseptic preparation of products such as systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT), total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and biological medicines used in the treatment of patients across NHS Lanarkshire. It is an exciting time at University Hospital Monklands with a new modern aseptic pharmacy unit, the introduction of Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HEPMA) and developing future plans for the replacement of the current hospital site.  Applications are welcomed from candidates with a passion for aseptic pharmacy technical service.

For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:
•    up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
•    more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified; 
•    more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate. 
•    more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.

JOB PURPOSE​​​​​​​

To provide pharmaceutical technical services within all sections of the pharmacy department to patients attending or admitted to the hospital. 

To ensure the accurate, efficient and timely supply of discharge/outpatient prescriptions, pharmaceutical stock and non-stock supplies to wards and departments. 


KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND / OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO DO THE JOB

National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent SVQ Level III

Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Continuing Professional Development as detailed by the General Pharmaceutical Council (mandatory requirement)

Experience in dispensing discharge / OPD / in-patient prescriptions

Experience in providing a ward/department stock top-up

Understanding of hospital pharmacy services

Ability to be trained to carry out aseptic and cytotoxic drug reconstitution / manipulations

Computer skills/keyboard skills ​​​​​​​

Good communication skills both verbal and written

Ability to organise and prioritise work / Team player

Participation in weekend and public holiday working ​​​​​​​
