To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

You will have operational day to day and professional line management by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Lead for Clinical Health Psychology, as an employee of the NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Psychological Service. NHS Ayrshire & Arran Psychological Services comprises of over 100 staff including Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists in CBT, Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology, Counsellors, Graduate Assistant Psychologists and Masters and Doctoral Psychology Trainees. The Psychological Service delivers area-wide psychological provision through the Professional Lead for Psychological Services, Heads of Specialty and Consultant Psychology Leads across the Psychological Specialties.

The Clinical Health Psychology service consists of a number of Clinical Psychologists, each linked to an acute medical specialty: Cardiac, Oncology, Pain, Bariatric, Weight Management, ICU and General Medicine.  Within each of these acute specialist areas the Psychologist is an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Nursing, Medical and Allied Health Professionals. This post is professionally aligned to the Clinical Health Psychology Service and will sit clinically within the Pan-Ayrshire Long Term Condition Rehabilitation team, a supportive, multi-disciplinary team who are working across both acute and communities and specialise in assessing and treating long term conditions.

The team is currently expanding as they incorporate the assessment, and supported self-management of Long Covid into the work they carry out. Your role will be to provide a specialised clinical psychology service to people affected by multiple long term conditions including Long Covid; providing highly specialist psychological and neuro-psychological assessment and short to medium term therapy at the same time as offering advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers; working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures. You will utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service. You will undertake service development which may have an impact beyond own area of practice, specifically contributing to the improvement of the Healthy and Active Rehabilitation Programme (HARP) as a whole. You will provide clinical and professional supervision to other psychologists or trainees undertaking Doctoral training. You will provide training and supervision/coaching in the use of psychologically informed approaches within the MDT and to other teams in line with the clinical health psychology service training strategy. You will work closely with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist within Clinical Health Psychology.

The service places a strong emphasis on governance and has a number of internal special interest and working groups.  We provide excellent opportunities for CPD to support high-quality service delivery to patients and career development for our staff. The service has close links with the University of Glasgow, Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training Programme and both the Adult and Child Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology Programmes at Dundee, Stirling and Edinburgh Universities.

The current post is part-time Band 8a (5 sessions a week), however a variation in contracted hours would be considered (minimum 4 sessions per week). Previous experience working in medical settings and/or working with post-viral patients/patients with Long Term Conditions would be preferred but we would welcome discussions about relevant transferrable experiences. This post will be pan-Ayrshire, and a degree of travelling may be required - a car driver is preferred.

You must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a clinical psychologist.

An excellent relocation package of up to £12,000 is available depending on eligibility.
