This is a permanent part-time post for 34.6 hours.
Shift pattern: Monday-Friday Day shift, although may change to 7 days in the future. Mostly 12 hour shifts to cover the units opening hours of 8am – 8pm. ​​​​​​​

The band 3 HCSW post is part of a multi professional, multi-disciplinary team based in the Acute Oncology Assessment Unit (AOAU) at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.  Involves working collaboratively to assess and manage unwell patients with cancer, whilst ensuring timely referral to appropriate level of senior nursing & medical staff and admission of patients to an inpatient ward where appropriate.  The AOAU provides unscheduled care to patients presenting / becoming unwell in out-patient and day case treatment areas, as well as those accessing services via the Cancer Treatment Helpline.  The AOAU works closely with the inpatient Beatson Enhanced care Unit (ECU) and the oncology wards. To meet the demands of the services the post holder will be expected to cover in-patient, day case and out-patient services if and when required, which includes assisting in the ECU. 

Applications are sought from Health Care Support Workers with a minimum of 2 years experience, preferable in an acute specialty area (includes acute medicine, critical care, cardiology, oncology, haematology).  Evidence that post holder can complete an agreed training pathway to include cannulation, venepuncture, ECGs and patient observations.
