Rapid Cancer Diagnostic Service – Clinical Nurse Specialist, Band 7, Up to Full-Time, Contract to March 2024
The new Rapid Cancer Diagnostic Service is part of a national initiative to improve the journey of patients with ‘vague but concerning symptoms, suggestive of cancer’, where we will aim to see, investigate and diagnose patients within 21 days of referral.
Pilots in Fife, Dumfries & Galloway and Ayrshire have been very successful, and the service in Borders is part of a second phase of implementation. The service has been funded to run as a pilot until March 2024, with the intention that this will continue if successful.
This is an exciting opportunity to develop a new service that will provide significant benefits for patients.
The CNS will facilitate MDT working across professional boundaries in health and social care settings, including within the regional cancer network to provide a direct clinical service to patients, work independently to organise appropriate investigations and participate in developing the service model.
Applications are invited from registered nurses who have excellent communication and organisational skills, with 5 years post-registration experience, including at least 2 years caring for patients with complex needs in a relevant clinical setting. The post is offered on a full-time basis, and applications for part-time working would also be considered.
Professional development will be supported and a willingness to undertake Masters level education relevant to the clinical requirements of the post is essential. Where essential criteria of the Band 7 job description are not met, an annex 21 development post will be considered with individual competencies and development plan being agreed on appointment.
It is planned that interviews will be held virtually on Thursday 5th January.
