2 Posts – Band 8a Clinical Psychologists (IR128988 and IR129987)

15 hours – North of Scotland Major Trauma Network Community Rehabilitation

37.5 hours – Learning Disability Service (flexibility with hours, minimum 18.75 hours)


Applications are invited from clinical psychologists who are interested in working within committed, dynamic and patient centred psychology services in NHS Grampian. The departments of Neuropsychology and Learning Disabilities are working together to offer varied and interesting employment opportunities for 8a psychologists. We are highly invested in retaining our staff and as a result professional and career progression is central to our staff development. CPD, in particular via the BPS Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology, is supported for applicants. Interests in research are encouraged and supported by the strong links with Aberdeen University Psychology Department with whom we have several joint publications.

There is opportunities for joint working across departments (including collaborative working with trainees) and active participation in CPD and research, including links with University of Aberdeen are encouraged. Although there are 37.5 hours available within the Learning Disability Service, there is flexibility in the agreed hours to provide the opportunity to work across services.


North of Scotland Major Trauma Network Community Rehabilitation

Clinical Psychologist Band 8a (15.0 hours per week with potential for additional hours)

Applications are invited from psychologists who are interested in working, along with a multidisciplinary team, to provide psychological care to patients and their families in the community as part of the major trauma pathway. The psychologist will join a team working across the North of Scotland Trauma Network and will be based with the Department of Clinical Neuropsychology, NHS Grampian.

Work involves assessment and intervention with patients and their families. The psychologist will contribute to developing the major trauma team approach to psychological care. They will play a key role in advising multidisciplinary team on psychological management of patients.

Specific aspects of the posts include: Neuropsychology: Working in the community as part of a team of Clinical Neuropsychologists within the North of Scotland major trauma network committed to providing holistic care, as part of a wider multidisciplinary team, for patients who have experienced major trauma injuries (including brain and/ or orthopaedic injury). This involves neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation and psychological intervention with patients and their families and joint working with multidisciplinary colleagues. Regular supervision is provided by Senior Clinical Psychologists within the major trauma team.


Clinical Psychologist Band 8a (37.5 hours) - Community Learning Disability Teams

We are seeking a dynamic individual to provide a highly specialist clinical psychology service to adults with a learning disability for the post of permanent 1.0 wte Clinical Psychologist within Aberdeen City Health & Social Care Partnership and to support

the work of the multidisciplinary and multiagency teams. This will also involve supporting and developing teaching packages and pathways, as well as service evaluation and development of psychological therapy services.

There are 5 other qualified staff working across Grampian within the community learning disability teams. There are close links with the D Clin Psych/ Edinburgh University and the service routinely provides core and specialist placements for trainees completing this course. The service has an active CPD programme, supports practitioners’ clinical and research interests and there are opportunities for individual and group supervision.

We are particularly keen for applications from psychologists interested in working across both Neuropsychology and Learning Disabilities to build on recent collaboration between the departments which has included joint trainee experience for DClinPsychol trainees from University of Edinburgh and joint CPD.
