This post is based at Doon House, University Hospital Ayr.

The role of the Public Health Department of NHS Ayrshire & Arran is to deliver on the public health functions associated with public health protection, health intelligence, health improvement and environmental health. This includes the provision of strategic leadership for the populations’ health and responding to health inequalities, the provision of expert advice and guidance to support the promotion of health improvement.

You will be required to provide health improvement expertise and advice to increase the capacity of colleagues, partners and communities to promote health and reduce inequalities. To develop, action, monitor and evaluate evidence based health improvement programmes to improve health in Ayrshire and Arran by implementing the core health improvement functions of leadership in delivery of the health improvement function; training; health information, social marketing resource and campaign development; strategy and policy development; developing partnerships for health; project management; and, research and evaluation. 

Working within a Locality Health Improvement Team you will be required to work with partners effectively, engaging, influencing, capacity building and supporting local communities to improve and promote health and wellbeing, and reduce health inequalities.

You will be educated to degree level in Health Improvement, Public Health or related subject such as education, social care, social policy or able to demonstrate equivalent experiential learning which must be demonstrated through a well developed portfolio that is linked to professional competencies. Additionally, you will require to provide evidence of a developed portfolio which demonstrates your practical experience of: developing health improvement interventions/programmes; implementing the principles, values and concepts in promoting health and wellbeing; obtaining, verifying, analysing and interpreting data/information; conducting literature reviews and constructing academic reports; working collaboratively with people from other teams and agencies; continually developing and improving own practice.
