NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Having recently reviewed the scope of our small communications team, we are now on the lookout for a Communications and Engagement Officer who is driven by a strong sense of purpose, with a particular passion about the power of communities.

This is a role that offers the chance as part of a team, to educate others about the systems across health and social care, and how we are working and innovating to overcome long-term challenges. This includes how we best share the stories, vision, motivations, and incredible contributions of many of Edinburgh’s community heroes – carers, charities, clinical experts, and more – whose combined services and commitment, help deliver more good days for citizens across the capital.

About you:

We are looking for an experienced, resourceful, and organised communications professional. Ideally you should have 4+ years’ experience within a complex communications environment. An environment where working across organisational boundaries is part of everyday working.

The successful candidate will be particularly expert in building and managing relationships with a whole range of stakeholders (both internal and external), and most of all, enthusiastic and passionate about making a difference.

About the team:

This is a really interesting and opportunity-filled time to join our organisation. Our work in a number of areas is evolving, innovating, and accelerating, thanks to the strength of our partnership working across Edinburgh’s public and third sectors.

The challenges in health and social care are vast. However, the recently redesigned communications and engagement team has ensured that a supportive and enabling structure is at its heart to work together and play our part supporting others. Where values, camaraderie, and shared skills & knowledge, will be at the centre of how we work, and hold ourselves accountable. You will also be part of a team where we work together to provide a safe supportive space and environment, and where accountability for direction is upheld by the team lead to help support how we work, and enable you to showcase what you can do, and be your best.

The role:

You will play a key role in our team, taking responsibility for delivering ‘brilliant basics’ – leading the daily scheduling and running of our key internal and external communications channels. Alongside working with senior communications colleagues, you will also help contribute to the design and development of forward-look creative campaign planning, as well as how we measure success.

As part of the Communications and Engagement team, you will also be expected to help provide communications advice to leaders and wider colleagues on effective ‘behaviour driven’ engagement solutions.

Experience:

Prior experience in communications, public relations, social media, and content management is essential.

You should be confident at creating content and thinking strategically, understanding the importance of person-centred, clear messaging. You should also be able to demonstrate a fair level of critical thinking when working through ‘best fit’ solutions – taking into account the wider strategic and political context.

If you have exceptional interpersonal skills and are resilient, organised, and comfortable working with a wide range of people, we would love to hear from you.
