Senior Research Nurse– Band 6

 30 hrs/week (12months fixed term)

The Glasgow Clinical Research Facility incorporates Clinical Research Facilities at the QEUH/RHC and GRI. With satellite units at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Gartnavel General Hospital and the Dental Hospital. Jointly they provide a streamlined service to investigators to conduct their clinical research efficiently and safely.   Glasgow Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is recruiting a Senior Research Nurse to assist us in providing high quality nursing care for participants of surgical and intensive care Research.  We would like an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative nurse to join our team. Research experience is desirable but equivalent clinical experience in Surgical / ICU environments will be accepted.  You will be trained and supported to coordinate the recruitment, treatment, education, monitoring and follow up of research participants and the collection and documentation of accurate study data. You will work collaboratively with Principal and Chief Investigators and the wider multi-disciplinary team in the management of your own caseload of research patients.  You will be a First Level Registered Nurse with relevant clinical experience and educated to (or working towards) as degree level. Research experience is highly desirable although transferable skills can be demonstrated. You will work to research principles including confidentiality, randomisation procedures, informed consent and ethical issues, and an understanding of research within the context of the Research Governance Framework and good clinical Practice. Attention to detail, strong organisational and communication skills, good IT skills and a methodical approach are key requirements, along with a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.  The Clinical Research Facility has research Nurse cover form 0800-1700 Monday to Friday predominantly the hours are 0830-1630 but there is a requirement to take a flexible approach in order to meet the needs of research studies, with a requirement to work unsocial hours and weekends as necessary. The ability to travel between all sites within NHS GGC is also essential.  

Minimal Requirements:  

  • Registered Nurse, educated to degree level (or working towards)
  • First level degree with evidence of continuing personal development.  
  • Significant, current and relevant clinical experience in acute specialties
  • Ability to prioritise own and staff workload to achieve agreed timelines, quality standards and targets.  

Desirable

  • Experience of working in both academic and commercial research
  • Knowledge of current research regulations and governance requirements
  • Experience of working in and ICU/HDU environment

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record.
