A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced existing Band 7 Senior Charge Nurse or an extensively experienced Band 6 Charge Nurse to support and manage winter planning, delivery and implementation of patient care delivered across winter escalation wards teams at Gartnavel General Hospital.
We are pleased to invite Expressions of Interest for the post which will be offered to the successful candidate on a seconded basis for a period of up to 6 months.
This is an ideal opportunity to use your clinical skill , judgement and expertise to guide and support the decision making process surrounding complex winter planning, patient management and discharge planning.
About the role
A newly created Nursing Team for the winter escalation ward at Gartnavel General Hospital is being formed to provide ongoing further specialist care for patients with a varied range of health conditions, aid discharge and encourage flow within our Acute hospitals over winter.
The focus of the role will be to lead the nursing team within the winter surge ward ensuring that patient needs are assessed, care planned, implemented and evaluated with consultation and involvement of patient, carers and relatives.
The role will provide you with the opportunity to contribute, as part of the multidisciplinary team, to the development, implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the Medical and Discharge Without Delay winter escalation ward. This ward will provide nursing care for patients requiring ongoing medical care, and also to provide step down care for patients who may no longer be in acute phase of illness, but requiring support before discharge.

The variety and scope of care in response to winter pressures required to meet the needs of a diverse range of patients can be extremely rewarding.
Over December 2022 and January 2023, additional winter escalation wards are scheduled to open at Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow, Inverclyde Royal Hospital, Greenock and Vale of Leven Hospital, West Dunbartonshire.
To be considered for this secondment you must be educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience and be currently an existing Band 7 Senior Charge Nurse. Applications are also welcomed and encouraged from extensively experienced Band 6 Charge Nurses. Evidence of proven managerial and clinical skills along with continuing professional development are prerequisites for the role.
To apply for the role you must be a current employee of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and hold current UK NMC professional registration with a live PIN (Personal Identification Number) which is an essential selection criterion.
