Specialist General Practice Pharmacist
Band 8A £58,426 - £63,026 including Distant Islands Allowance pro rata per annum

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated registered pharmacist to deliver a clinical pharmacy service promoting safe, efficient, and cost-effective medicines management within NHS Orkney, as part of the evolving Scottish Government primary care strategy, including pharmacotherapy services.
This post is funded by Primary Care Improvement Fund monies to develop pharmacy services within GP practices with the intention of transferring medicine related tasks and activities, which were historically undertaken by GP’s, to the Primary Care Pharmacy Team.
The postholder will join the Primary Care Pharmacy Team working in general practices across mainland Orkney and the outer isles. This is a full-time post at Band 8A for a 6-month fixed term period however, applications for less hours per week would be considered depending on rationale provided by the applicant. Secondments and remote working would also be considered for the right applicant; however, the successful applicant would be required to spend 2 weeks in Orkney undertaking induction. Participation in regular meetings via Microsoft Teams with the Primary Care Pharmacy Team working in Orkney would also be necessary to ensure service continuity and safe working practice.
The post holder must be a qualified Independent Prescriber and will work as a clinical pharmacist in a number of GP practices and Care Homes across NHS Orkney. The role will include providing pharmaceutical support through the reviewing of prescribing data, performing audits, and recommending changes in prescribing practices with your key focus being to improve the health and wellbeing outcomes for the residents of Orkney. You will be supported and mentored by our existing team of experienced primary and secondary care pharmacists and pharmacy technicians: team-working is key.
This is an exciting and flexible post offering a unique working environment with a friendly and enthusiastic team in a stunning remote and rural setting. You will work as part of the multidisciplinary team within practices and alongside managed service staff to ensure prescribing is safe, effective with a focus on optimising pharmaceutical care and medicines management for the population of Orkney.
The successful candidates may have a community, general practice, or hospital background, but good clinical and technical knowledge and application ability as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
