IT Helpdesk Technician 
Balfour Hospital 
Band 3 £25,326 - £27,220 including Distant Islands Allowance pro rata per annum  
Full Time: 37.5 hours per week 
Fixed Term 6 Months 

The Information Technology department at NHS Orkney is undergoing significant development and expansion in preparation for Digital Transformation within the NHS.  An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed-term IT Helpdesk Technician to provide front-line support and advice on our busy IT Service Desk. 

This role will be the face of the IT Desktop Service, making sure technical problems with hardware, software, and computer networks are effectively triaged or resolved at first contact.  

The successful candidate will be Qualified to SVQ3 level or equivalent experience, have working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office and be able to show an active interest in continued professional development which we will support. Knowledge of NHS topology and specifically NHS Orkney would be a distinct advantage. 

You would be welcomed into a dynamic IT support team, supporting around 1200 users using a wide variety of software and hardware, an excellent opportunity to learn and develop a career in IT. 

To be considered for this post you must be able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues at all levels within the organisation, have proven experience working in a customer-facing role and demonstrate an ability to assess Service Desk calls, efficiently troubleshoot a variety of IT issues whilst working in a busy environment and manage your priorities. This role is involved in an out-of-hours rota. 

Active listening and good written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role, accurately following procedures in addition to working well as part of a team.
