Job Advert

Old Age Psychiatry in Fife is currently undergoing an exciting period of service development and these posts offer the opportunity to be involved in determining the shape of mental health for Older Adults in the region for the future.  As a Consultant you will work alongside and be supported by a multi disciplinary team of dedicated staff in the West of Fife.

The posts offer ample scope for teaching links within the Universities of Edinburgh, St Andrews and Dundee.  Flexible working models are in operation, complementing the good work life balance that this mixed rural urban area offers, with ready access to the cities of Dundee and Edinburgh, good local schools and economical housing.

Within Fife, there is a consultant body of approximately 30 consultants meeting regularly at the Division of Psychiatry, with specialists in General Adult Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Learning Disabilities, CAMHS, Substance Misuse and Eating Disorders as well as Old Age Psychiatry.  The oncall commitment for out of hours is shared between all Consultants, with the exception of CAMHS Consultants and is currently 1 in 18.

There is support from junior medical staff from the South East Scotland rotational training scheme or General Practitioner Specialist Training scheme and you will be expected to take part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.  All junior medical posts in Fife are fully accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Fife is an area of considerable scenic, historic and cultural interest and a great place to live and work.  This is an exciting time to work in the region with the Health & Social Care Partnership and Health Board having the same boundary, so integration offers real opportunities to look at the whole picture of care from a patient's perspective.  The Health & Social Care Partnership supports and encourages Consultant career development.  In addition you will be supported in providing strong clinical leadership.

UK trained candidates must be on the specialist register or within 6 months of an approved CCT at the date of interview.  Non UK candidates must have confirmation from the GMC that CESR has been awarded at the date of application.
