Advanced Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology

Applications are welcome for the above fixed term (12 months), Full-Time (40 hours per week) post based in Western General Hospital.
This fixed term advanced clinical fellowship post is intended for advanced gastroenterology trainees who have completed their basic gastroenterology training and are independently competent in routine upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and clinical work. The post is for 12 months.
Around 50% of the job plan is service commitment and the remaining time is flexible for specialist interest. We are able to offer specialist training, audit and research in inflammatory bowel disease and in advanced colonoscopy.
1. Inflammatory Bowel Disease (WGH). We have a large cohort of IBD patients providing a tertiary referral service. Alongside this we have an integrated clinical trials programme with basic science and translational research studies. The successful candidate will be provided with training in research and clinical trial delivery with accreditation through the National Institute Health Research Associate Principal Investigator Scheme (https://www.nihr.ac.uk/), where possible. This role is supported by 2 consultants, 6 IBD specialist and 2 research nurses.
2. Advanced Colonoscopy. We undertake complex polypectomy using EMR and have dedicated lists and a complex polyp MDT where we liaise closely with our colorectal colleagues. There will be the opportunities to participate in advanced EMR and other therapeutic colonoscopy.
GI services are provided by NHS Lothian across the Western General Hospital and Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh sites.
The post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
