About Us

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest healthcare system in Scotland. Through investment in continuous reliable implementation of patient safety processes we are committed to transforming the quality of health care across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This includes the leadership and service management structures which drive and support achievement of the Board’s Healthcare Quality Strategy and the key ambitions of person centred, effective and safe care.

About the Role

We offer an excellent opportunity to join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Executive Director of Nursing‘s senior team as the new Chief Nurse – Head of Service Public Protection.  This dynamic and high profile role offers a tremendous opportunity to support the whole system by leading and developing both the Public Protection and professional agendas.

Our Public Protection Team provides guidance to all staff across the Board’s Acute Division and six Health & Social Care Partnerships on matters relating to Child and Adult Protection as well as supporting staff delivering services to children and adults in other local authority areas.

As the Board’s designated Public Protection Manager, the Chief Nurse will lead and directly manage the Public Protection service and function. The successfully appointed candidate will hold a strategic leadership role across the organisation with professional and managerial responsibility for Child Protection, Adult Support and Protection and a linked role to Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).

An important aspect of the role is the provision of senior professional and expert leadership to support the delivery of the Boards objectives for vulnerable children, young people and adults both within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and across Health and Social Care Partnerships.

The role will prioritise responsibility for management processes, risk and governance relating to Public Protection ensuring there are clear and effective structures and processes designed for co-ordinated decisions that achieve system wide standards.

Clinically credible, the post holder will function as an expert resource providing clinical leadership, expert advice based on advanced knowledge and experience, integrating research evidence into practice and contributing to the body of knowledge within a Public Protection context.

We are looking for an exceptional candidate

The role demands an inspiring individual, with extensive experience in a similar role, who will lead and embed a culture of research, development and improvement underpinned by robust systems and processes in order to achieve safe, effective, person care for our population.

We are seeking a clinical leader currently operating at strategic senior level within a Health Board or Health and Social Care Partnership with a track record of achievement in leading and managing service modernisation, redesign related initiatives and integrating professional nursing perspectives with service strategy.

This role requires someone with extensive expert level nursing knowledge and skills across a wide range of specialties with strong leadership skills, excellent communication and networking skills.

As much of the post holder’s role reflects National and Local policy drivers in Scotland for Public Protection, this therefore requires someone with a high level of political awareness and the personal credibility to quickly gain respect and influence both internal and external stakeholders.

Candidates must hold current UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration as a Nurse/Midwife and be educated to master’s degree level including qualifications in leadership. Evidence of post graduate study (or equivalent) in Public Protection (PP), Adult Support and Protection (ASP) and Child Protection (CP) is desirable.

The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
