​​​​​​​Applications are invited from enthusiastic and forward thinking anaesthetists for one post as a Consultant Anaesthetist based in NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

Join us in the department of anaesthesia at University Hospital Crosshouse (UHC) and University Hospital Ayr (UHA). We are two District General Hospitals, currently comprising of 40 Consultants, 15 SAS doctors and 15 Trainee Anaesthetists. 

The posts will involve delivering anaesthesia and perioperative care for a variety of surgical specialties. You will have the opportunity to develop your sub-specialty interests including perioperative medicine, regional anaesthesia and obstetric anaesthesia. 

The role includes non-resident consultant on-call duties (1:14) rota based at the University Hospital Crosshouse covering emergency theatre and obstetric anaesthesia.  In addition, this post involves participation on a 1:25 rota (plus prospective cover) for inter-hospital transfer of ICU patients, with a 2 hour response time.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran is undergoing transformational change, with the development of a National Treatment Centre for orthopaedic elective surgery, a regional referral centre for urological services and a well-established national cochlear implant service.

•    UHA and UHC are situated within the greenbelt with easy access to the countryside.  Both have free parking and cycling facilities.
•    UHA has a preschool nursery on site.
•    NHS Ayrshire & Arran has established a nationally recognised Medical Peer Support Programme with formally trained Mentors.
•    There is a wide range of teaching opportunities for postgraduate and undergraduate medical students from national and international universities using facilitated learning and simulation. 

•    Team members are supported to perform regional and national posts.
•    UHA has been recognised as the top performing orthopaedic arthroplasty theatre in Scotland.
•    UHC is the trauma centre for the area.

Ayrshire is a great place to live and work, with a fantastic coastal location and wide open sandy beaches. This offers exciting leisure opportunities including water-based activities such as sailing, kite-surfing and paddle-boarding. There is exceptional road and off-road cycling, and multiple championship golf courses.  The island of Arran is a ferry ride away for day trips or short breaks. It is a great place to raise a family, with affordable housing and access to reputable state and private schools. There are excellent transport links to the vibrant city of Glasgow and also close proximity to both Glasgow and Prestwick Airports.

Applicants will be appropriately experienced with Full GMC Registration, including a current Licence to Practice.  Applicants would ideally be on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of a CCT or CESR at the time of interview.
