This appointment is for two substantive Consultant vacancies in Forensic Pathology, available from March 1st 2023, offering the successful candidates the opportunity to work within the Forensic Pathology Department in one of the leading Departments of Pathology in the United Kingdom.

The core service work is forensic autopsies currently carried out at the City Mortuary of Edinburgh, at the request of East SFIU (COPFS). Reports on autopsies, histology, toxicological and other ancillary investigations have to be prepared, with provisional and final reports issued to COPFS within contractually-agreed timescales.  There are also occasional meetings with Procurators Fiscal and next-of-kin, which have to be attended as well as crime scenes on request by the Homicide Unit, SFIU. Each consultant has to provide cover for leave of colleagues. On-call duties comprise attendance at scenes of death, and possibly urgent post mortems (including out-of-hours). Applicants are required to be on, or to be eligible for inclusion on, the GMC Specialist Register as either Histopathology (Forensic) or Forensic Pathology.

All consultants are expected to be involved in direct clinical care, CPD and audit, and to be available for teaching and involved in research as appropriate. Multidisciplinary meetings are a key part of direct clinical care.
