Inverclyde Royal Hospital is recruiting Band 2 Healthcare Support Workers for temporary posts initially for 4 months within our busy Medical Wards . Candidates selected will be assigned specifically to our 2023 additional support Nursing Teams.
We are offering a number of Fixed Term contracts with start dates for successful candidates, scheduled over late January and early February 2023.

About the Healthcare Support Worker Role
Working under the supervision of registered Nursing professionals our teams of Healthcare Support Workers play a crucial role in helping patients on their journey back to full health.
Our winter support Nursing teams provide specialist care for patients with a range of health conditions and to support discharge of patients over winter.
We are seeking to recruit a team of Healthcare Support Workers who will bring experience from previous roles such as Caring / Customer Services to make a positive difference to our patients.
This is a fantastic opportunity for either those new to the NHS or candidates with previous health care experience or voluntary work seeking an opportunity to join a great team here at Inverclyde Royal Hospital and, if successful in your application, you will learn basic nursing skills at an important time for the NHS.
There is no doubt being a Healthcare Support Worker in a busy hospital environment is a hands-on role; every day is different providing and assisting with the care to support the needs of our patients and their families. In your role you will be doing some of the following:
- Washing and dressing patients
- Serving meals and helping patients eat
- Making Beds
- Talking to patients and their families
- Monitoring patient conditions and updating patient records
- Keeping the wards tidy and ensuring equipment is clean
What’s important is that you can demonstrate you have the personal attributes needed for the role through your work and personal experience such as being:
- Caring and Kind
- Keen to support patients with their personal needs including assisting with personal hygiene
- Able to work as a team and follow direct instructions
- Good listening and communication skills
- Be well organised
The Benefits
As a Healthcare Support Worker offered a fixed term contract, you’ll be paid monthly on the NHS Agenda for Change (AFC) pay system, at Band 2 at a starting salary for those new to the NHS of £21,814 .
You’ll also have access to the NHS pension scheme and health service discounts, sick pay as well as a generous annual leave allowance starting at 27 days of annual leave ( per year for full time hours ) which increases the longer you’re in service plus public / bank holidays.
The vacancies will suit candidates looking for full and part-time time hours (Min 24 hours per week).
The standard working week for full time hours will be 37.5 hours and will include a mix of shifts, such as nights, early starts, evenings and weekends. The working week which runs Monday to Sunday covers 3 x 12 hour shifts which means you are generally rostered over 3 days each week.
Your ability to cover flexible shift patterns will be assessed as part of the selection process.
As a Healthcare Support Worker you will be eligible on top of your base salary to unsocial hours payments for Night / Saturday and Sunday shifts as well as Bank Holidays.

The Education Centre is a white building on your left BEFORE the main entrance for the Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
From Glasgow: By Car Follow M8 / A8 towards Greenock, following directions through all roundabouts.
As you are approaching the town itself, watch for Fire Station on your left - TURN LEFT HERE and, going straight through the next roundabout, proceed directly up and over the steep hill, continue for about 1 ½ miles.
At the small roundabout there, TURN LEFT onto A78 Inverkip Road (signposted A78 Irvine)
Proceed for ½ mile, then TURN RIGHT onto Gleniver Road that becomes Larkfield Road and proceed ¼ mile

From Irvine:
Follow M8 / A8 and A78
TURN LEFT onto Larkfield Road (after the new school on your left) and proceed ¼ mile

Car Parking:
Parking is available around the IRH site and in the overflow car park across the road.
By Train:
From Glasgow Central Station take the Wemyss Bay train (1 train/hour), getting off at Branchton Station, walking across the pedestrian bridge and then straight up the hill towards Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
