NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

A rare opportunity has arisen and we are currently recruiting for an experienced nurse with a background in critical care nursing to join our small, highly motivated team at the Aberdeen Hyperbaric Unit.

Aberdeen has the only category 1 Hyperbaric Chamber in Scotland.   We provide an elective service for a variety of conditions and a 24 hour emergency service to treat divers suffering from decompression illness (DCI).

The successful applicant will be involved in the assessment and treatment of divers suffering from acute decompression illness and also other emergency indications. They will also be involved in the planning and care of elective admissions.

They will also be required to contribute to our 24/7, 365 day on-call rota. Occasional work in critical care will be required to keep up skills to maintain Aberdeen’s level 1 category chamber status.

As well as the emergency service we also treat patients with elective indications such as non-healing wounds and radiation damage. This means our team are continually stimulated with new experiences.

Our aim is to provide friendly support to the hyperbaric patients who can be away from home for up to eight weeks, receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy and to be able to deliver an emergency service and critical care nursing in the hyperbaric environment when required.

You will have excellent communication and clinical skills as well as providing a high quality service within the hyperbaric chamber. You will be forward thinking and have vision for the future development of the service.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with excellent clinical skills and strong leadership ability to lead the nursing team in providing a high quality service.  As part of the senior nursing team you will have the ability to shape future service development and have an impact on the care provision.  We also have a strong commitment toward professional development and recognise its importance in influencing the future workforce.

An attractive relocation allowance of up to £8,000 is available to successful candidates.
