We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced manager to join NHS Highland’s newly restructured Health & Safety Department. The post will be based out of Larch House in Inverness.

You will report to, work with and at times deputise for, the Head of Occupational Health and Safety to develop the Health and Safety Policy, Strategy and Plans and set the priorities and objectives for the service). This will include compliance work, assurance monitoring and specific projects (60% of the workload). In addition, you will be responsible for line managing, directing motivating, and guiding a small team of Health and Safety Advisors (40% of the workload).

We are looking for someone with drive and passion, who upholds and shares’ our core values and who can build and effectively maintain positive working relationships with team members and internal and external partners.

The successful applicant will provide professional and organisationally focused Health & Safety advice, guidance, and support to senior management to assist with the planning and delivery of safe and cost-effective healthcare services. This is a challenging but enjoyable, interesting, and varied role, where multi-disciplinary team working is essential to continuously improve, develop and deliver safe and changing services.

The successful Health and Safety Service Manager will:

  • Have effective team working characteristics
  • Be an effective communicator, have a positive outlook, with the ability to negotiate, influence, and engage within the team, management, staff, and trade unions across the organisation at levels.
  • Have experience in a prior multi-disciplinary / multi-site role, managing technical teams
  • Have good organisational and resource allocation skills with the ability to inspire and motivate the team and other stakeholders to meet objectives
  • Be a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH).
  • Be qualified to a minimum of National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) diploma or an equivalent level
  • Have additional relevant qualifications at Post Graduate level, this would be beneficial
  • Participate in the IOSH Blueprint Continuous Professional Development Programme
  • Have a driving license – this is essential
