NHS Lanarkshire have an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Consultant - Children and Young People to join our team based at Coathill Hospital. The successful candidate will provide expert professional and strategic advice, leadership, and consultancy in relation to Children and Young People (CYP) including the management and expansion of the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) service across HSCP North. This will involve working across professional and organisational boundaries, in partnership and in collaboration with others including service users, carers, social work, medical staff, allied health professionals, voluntary sector staff, and local education providers.
The post holder will have responsibility in six main areas
Expert Practice - demonstrating expert practice and knowledge in relation to Children and young people and support the Associate Director of Nursing (HSCP North) in relation to the implementation of Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014.
Work collaboratively with other Health Boards/ Partnerships, where required, to lead the development of CYP/ FNP service.
Strategic Planning/Policy Development – working closely with others to provide strategic vision for the development, improvement and delivery of services within NHS Lanarkshire and further afield, as appropriate. This includes responsibility for the development, management and implementation of the FNP service consistent with Early Years and Children and Young People’s policy landscape. Additionally this post will manage the expansion of the FNP programme from the current position to additional teams as a fully sustained service across Health and Social Care Partnership North.
Education and Training – Develop and deliver specialist training programmes. This shall be achieved by leading in the identification of educational needs, undertaking investment planning and developing strategy to meet these educational requirements within the area of responsibility.
Research and Development - developing and working with relevant stakeholders to undertake research, develop research proposals, and evaluate research. Represent Health and Social Care Partnership North and participate as required in local / national audit, evaluation and research related to CYP and FNP.
To provide professional leadership and direction and take responsibility for the recruitment, development and management of FNP services across HSCP North.
Essential Criteria
Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register.
Experienced Nurse with significant experience in a senior clinical/management role.
Experience of working in CYP/ FNP teams.
Educated to Masters Level with a recognised and appropriate post graduate qualification a master’s level or above, for example, post graduate in child protection.
Excellent communication skills, highly developed interpersonal skills, including negotiation, facilitation, influencing and presentation skills and evidence of ability to engage with staff and stakeholders at all levels.
Robust understanding of the FNP Programme and its underlying principles.
Portfolio of career long learning.
A knowledge of relevant policies protocols guidance and legislation affecting children young people and their families.
Knowledge of key inter agency children’s services processes, such as assessment information service planning review and child protection.
A high level of knowledge of a variety of IT systems.
Experience of patient/public involvement.
Solution focused, self-starter and disciplined.
Models the ethos of FNP approach.
