A fantastic opportunity has arisen to become part of a small team of Rural GP’s providing excellent primary care services to the active and resilient community of  Glenelg and Arnisdale.  This remote and rural practice is located on the West Coast of Scotland offers stunning highland coastal and mountain scenery, along with diverse wildlife.

Applications from candidates interested in applying for short fixed term contracts from four months to two years are welcomed.

The current practice population is 251, which increases significantly due to tourism throughout the year.   There are links to the other salaried practices in the locality (Broadford, Sleat, Torridon and Applecross) and with the wider salaried practices. The local community hospital based in Broadford, provides support and advice from the Rural Practitioners who are based there.   The Health Centre is modern and spacious, with a dispensary; Receptionist/Dispenser; a shared practice manager and a number of visiting clinicians and support services. The practice offers both in hour and out of hour service to cover 24/7 and an on call allowance is provided.

Following Professor Sir Lewis Ritchie’s Review of May 2018 into out of hours care in Skye, Lochalsh and South West Ross, we now have an opportunity to work together with the support of NES and other partners to develop a centre of excellence.  The successful candidate will have a remarkable opportunity to be part of this innovative and exciting new model of rural healthcare as it moves forward.

GPs have a 10 hour day starting at 8am until 6pm.  We offer 15 minute appointments in both morning and Friday afternoon surgery, seeing on average 6-10 patients each session, enabling the delivery of quality care to the community. The practice offers enhanced flexibility in patient care as a response to the remote and rural location. We are seeking a colleague whom ideally will be experienced or willing to undertake skills such as pre-hospital care, with BASICS training and palliative care. The practice is closed on Tuesdays, providing an on call service.

Our practice team is supported by an excellent community nursing team who are based in Kyle of Lochalsh.

Becoming part of this innovative team will offer you the exciting opportunity to work and embrace the unique challenges and opportunities presented by rural practice. You will be working as part of an extended team of professionals including the Scottish Ambulance Service, RNLI, Coastguards, Fire and Rescue Services, Police and Mountain Rescue.

Glenelg and Arnisdale offers a fantastic quality of life and opportunity to embrace a rural lifestyle within a welcoming community.  The area includes a small local inclusive primary school and an excellent Secondary Education in Plockton. Transport is provided by Highland Council from Glenelg to the High School. Glenelg and Arnisdale also offers a huge range of outdoor sporting activities, dining options including Michelin star restaurants based on the nearby Isle of Skye and art events.

Rise to the challenge and enjoy the opportunity – Glenelg and Arnisdale is a wonderful place to live, work and bring up a family and offers low pollution, low crime, abundant wildlife, amazing scenery and a great community spirit!
