POST: CONSULTANT RADIOLOGIST WITH AN INTEREST IN GI IMAGING
BASE: SOUTH SECTOR (1 POST)
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest National Health Service provider in Scotland with an annual operating budget of just under £2 billion. In recent years, NHSGGC has invested £15 million in new facilities and equipment, specifically in the areas of CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Digital Mammography, PET CT/SPECT, Angiography and General Digital Imaging.
This is a general post with a subspeciality interest in GI imaging.
The post will be based at QEUH with possible sessional commitments at Gartnavel General Hospital and/or New Victoria ACH.
This post is advertised as a full-time position although candidates who wish to work part-time will be considered.
The candidate will be expected to contribute to the general work of the department, in particular the acute service including trauma. Expected general proficiencies include supervision/ reporting of cross sectional imaging, US and plain films.
This attractive post involves working closely with a team of established GI consultants within the South sector who provide a wide variety of expertise to the West of Scotland. The post requires sub-specialist proficiencies/skills in GI imaging- including but not limited to MRI Liver, CT colongraphy, CT/MRI small bowel, MRI rectum.
Involvement in relevant MDTs will be expected- the south sector GI team contribute to a variety of sector, board and regional MDTs. Possible involvement includes contribution to the established regional HCC liver MDT and the developing pan GGC metastatic liver MDT.
Additional aspects of the job are negotiable and, to some extent, will be tailored to the abilities and interests of the successful applicant.
The successful candidate will participate in the diagnostic out of hour’s rota on a sector basis. Out-of-hours service is supported by GGC registrar Hub. Consultant duties include regular involvement in evening and weekend work in line with local agreement (time-in-lieu/ sessional compensation).
All out of hours’ activity will be undertaken based on the terms and conditions set out in the Consultant Contract (Scotland). The sector operates a compliant Specialist Registrar on-call rota, as laid out under the European Working Time Directive. The exact timetable will be subject to negotiation and current service needs.
There is ample scope for involvement in medical student and specialty trainee teaching locally as well as audit, while there are established links with the local Research & Innovation department with the option to participate in the research projects and trial reporting.
QEUH is a teaching hospital and participation in teaching, training and audit are an expected part of the jobs. Involvement in service development, quality improvement, appraisal and revalidation will also be expected. The amount of time needed for these activities will be subject to negotiation following appointment.
Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once CESR is awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
The job is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time. Up to 2 EPA’s may be available to undertake additional outpatient and/or procedure sessions or management activity.
Additional Non DCC (up to 2 PA’s in total – Inclusive of 1 core SPA plus 1 additional non DCC can be negotiated and agreed between the successful candidate and Management depending on the time required to support professional activities and the needs of the service.
All newly qualified Consultants are initially offered a minimum of 1 Core Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) which includes CPD, audit, clinical governance, appraisal, revalidation, job planning and management meetings. This will be reviewed within 6 months (or earlier if required) of appointment and revised upwards if additional responsibilities are agreed.
