Job Advert

Applications are invited from candidates with a First or Second Class Honours Degree in Physical Sciences or Engineering for entry to the Scottish Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Training Scheme (SMPCETS).  The scheme is commissioned by NES.

We anticipate being able to recruit at least one trainee in 2023.  The successful candidate will be enrolled onto the Medical Physics training programme, and be attached to NHS Grampian.

The training in Scotland includes rotations and acquaintanceships allowing trainees to build a portfolio for registration as a clinical scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council.  Funding for postgraduate training and course fees will be provided. Current salary scale for this supernumerary trainee post is ‘AfC’ band 6.

The successful applicant will be given a contract of employment in Medical Physics at NHS Grampian, starting at the beginning of September 2023.  They will register on the SMPCETS and, in their first year of employment, study for an IPEM accredited MSc degree, if not already held.  In the subsequent years of employment, training will consist of hospital-based rotations and the development of work-based practical experience in a final specialism.

Informal enquiries about the Medical Physics scheme should be made to Dr Stephen Gandy (Stephen.gandy@nhs.scot) or Prof. Bill Nailon (bill.nailon@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk).

Closing date for applications is 3rd March 2023.  Interviews are currently scheduled for the week commencing 24th April 2023, and will be held virtually.

Please note: only successful candidates will be contacted for interview.  If you have not been contacted by 14th April, 2023 you will have been unsuccessful.
