Associate Postgraduate Dean for Medicine, West of Scotland
Hours: Part Time, 3 PA’s (12 hours per week)
Duration: Fixed Term / SLA for 36 months*

What you'll do:
The Associate Postgraduate Dean for Medicine, West of Scotland will, with the other 5 APGDs for Medicine across Scotland (4 Regional APGDs; the IMS1 APGD; IMS2/ GIM APGD), support the Lead Dean to provide medical leadership for Scotland of the delivery of training in Medicine and Medical Specialties, as well as supporting the quality management processes to ensure that the training that is delivered fully meets the GMC’s standards.
The APGD should be a Consultant and is accountable to the Lead Dean for Medicine. They may also combine the role with that of an educational and/or clinical supervisor.
Key Tasks
To be an operational lead for specialty training in the Scotland Deanery and in particular in the West Region
To provide a clear sense of purpose and direction in relation to training in the specialties to the relevant Training Programme Directors. This will be done by regular and effective communication, by promoting peer support, by feedback and by appraisal
To represent the Region on the Specialty Training Committees and Specialty Training Boards
To attend the relevant ARCP panels
To work with the Postgraduate Dean and colleagues in partner organisations to ensure that recruitment and trainee numbers within specialty training contribute appropriate workforce development to meet the needs of the service and patients
To support the delivery of quality management and continuous educational improvement of all specialty training programmes in the region to meet the standards set by the General Medical Council (GMC).
To participate in other panels, committees as required including Quality Management visits, Quality Review Panels and specialty QM Groups, step 2 Appeals panels, under-graduate fitness to practise panels etc, where participation does not pose any potential conflict of interests.
Assisting in the preparation and arrangements for GMC and external College visits
To deputise for the Postgraduate Dean as required
To contribute to the overall corporate governance and management of the Deanery and the NHS more widely
To provide support and advice to doctors with difficulty in training on a Regional basis
What you'll bring

The post is available for 3 years in the first instance.
