This advert is for a locum consultant post in the Department of Neurosurgery, based at the Institute of Neurological Sciences, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.
The Department of Neurosurgery supplies a regional service to a population of 2.3 million, mainly from the West of Scotland (NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, NHS Ayrshire and Arran, NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Highland (specifically Argyll and Bute HSCP) and NHS Western Isles), although some patients are referred from other areas of Scotland for sub-specialty care, specifically within our National Services.
The Department also has close links with the Departments of Neurology, Neuropathology, Neuro-anaesthesia, Diagnostic Neuroradiology, Interventional Neuroradiology, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Clinical Neurophysiology, Neuropsychology and Clinical Physics. The department also has visiting specialists from Neuro-ophthalmology and Neuro-otology
The post holder(s) will be expected to provide a comprehensive service to patients, including access to weekly theatre lists, outpatient clinics, ward rounding and MDTs. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the ongoing growth within the department and fulfill their role in the teaching of the trainees and other junior members of staff.
Out of hours work involves participation in a 1:13 on call rota whereby the occupant is expected to be able to manage general neurosurgical issues. The post holder will be supported by a wide team of professionals at both junior and senior tiers.
NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde initially allocates all full time consultants 10 PAs made up of 9 PAs in Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and one core Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) for CPD, audit, clinical governance, appraisal, revalidation, job planning, internal routine communication and management meetings. The precise allocation of SPA time and associated objectives will be agreed with the successful applicant and will be reviewed at annual job planning.
