An opportunity has arisen to contribute to the development of the Regional Neurophysiology Service based at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences (DCN) and Royal Hospital for Children & Young People (RHCYP), Little France, Edinburgh. EH16 4TJ
Dimensions of the post
The Area Service provides a broad range of Neurophysiological investigations for adults and paediatrics including:
- Routine and Drug activation Electroencephalography (EEG) recordings.
- Portable EEG service i.e. SCBU, ITU.
- Video EEG Telemetry.
- 24 Hour Ambulatory/ Home EEG Videotelemetry.
- Evoked Potentials
- Spinal Monitoring.
- Electrocorticography.
- Cortical mapping and epilepsy surgery monitoring.
- Neuromonitoring.
- Physiologist led Nerve Conduction Velocity clinics.
- Consultant led Electromyography (EMG) and NCV.
Duties include:
- Support two Consultant Neurophysiologists in the day-to-day running of clinics ensuring adequate stock of consumables & assisting with patients where required.
- Perform routine Electroencephalography (EEG).
- Support Physiologists in the day/day running of the service including troubleshooting, assistance with patients and clinic room preparation.
- Update hospital information systems with the provision of reports.
- Responsible for stock control and ordering via hospital procurement on both sites for the supra regional service.
- Assist in ambulatory EEG and videotelemetry set up. .
Requirements of the Post
The successful candidates must have:
- Minimum SVQ III or HNC (e.g. SCQF level 7) in health related subject (minimum) plus evidence of experience working within health and/or social care.
- Completion of professional portfolio and EEG exam.
- Diploma equivalent EEG modules.
Training can be provided if required.

*Please note this is a Trainee post, therefore Annex 21 applies*
For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:
- up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
- more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified;
- more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
- more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
