This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to join a small, enthusiastic Health Improvement Team within the Public Health Directorate working in collaboration with partner agencies including the Highland Alcohol and Drugs Partnership (HADP), Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service, Maternity Service, Care and Learning and the Third Sector.
This post is responsible for delivering health improvement programmes including alcohol brief interventions along with testing, developing and organising the running of an alcohol and drugs liaison service for pregnant women within North Highland. This post will provide leadership and co-ordination for service development and will support midwifery colleagues across North Highland to improve outcomes for pregnant women, babies and families affected by alcohol and drug use.
The postholder will work collaboratively across relevant partner agencies and departments in NHS Highland and Highland Council. The postholder will operate throughout the North Highland geographic area. They will utilise Teams and travel to locations, where it is safe and appropriate to do so.
The successful candidate will have a firm understanding of the principles and practice of; Public Health/Health Improvement, knowledge of alcohol and drug issues in relation to pregnancy, skills in partnership working, service development and a commitment to evidence-based practice. Knowledge of the current context for this agenda, including key national policy drivers and national and local priorities for preventing and reducing alcohol and drug related harm would be advantageous. Candidates should have excellent communication skills and be competent in delivering training. They will also be aware of the effects that inequalities have on health, particularly in relation to alcohol and drug use.
This is a fantastic opportunity to live and work in an area of outstanding natural beauty offering scope for a wide range of recreational pursuits; candidates will also be aware of the impact that geography and demographics have on the North Highland population’s health needs and on the ways these are addressed.
You will also be a registered midwife with a minimum of 2 years experience.
