NHS Ayrshire and Arran are pleased to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as a Locum Consultant Dermatologist to cover a maternity leave. This will be for a period of one year, end date of 29th July 2024. Applications are invited for a part-time (8 PA) dermatology consultant post. Flexible working or job sharing will also be considered.
You would be joining a team of six friendly and welcoming consultants currently providing a Dermatology. We are a strong team with diverse specialist skills and experience who support each other and our patients as we strive to deliver the best possible care. It is an exciting time for service development that you could help drive and design.
The Department is based in University Hospital Crosshouse, Kilmarnock and University Hospital Ayr. Applicants will be expected to work across both sites. Ayrshire offers spectacular countryside and coastline to explore, world-renowned golfing all within easy reach of the vibrant, cosmopolitan city of Glasgow and the south side leafy suburbs with excellent schooling.
There is access to 4 adult in-patient beds at Crosshouse Hospital, and access to beds in the Paediatric Unit. The unit has busy Day Treatment Units at Crosshouse and Heathfield providing dressings, TL01, and PUVA. Minor surgery facilities are available in the Dermatology Centre as well as in the clinic areas. Specialist dermatology nurses operate review clinics primarily for eczema and psoriasis patients and for those patients on isotretinoin and biologic therapy. There are seven nurse biopsy specialists.
The unit is also supported by 1 FY2 doctor, 1 GPST, 2 SpR doctors, 2 Specialty Doctors, 4 GPwER, a senior charge nurse, 3 Nurse Practitioners, and a team of experienced Dermatology Nurses.
The Dermatology Department enjoys close working relationships with Maxillofacial Surgery and Plastic Surgery. Monthly meetings are held with the pathology department as well as fortnightly skin cancer MDT meetings. The Dermatology Department holds a weekly CME programme, including regular clinical review meetings, audit sessions and journal clubs, and the regional centres in Glasgow hold additional regular postgraduate meetings which are easily accessible. The Medical Directorate also operates a CME programme. Undergraduates from Glasgow University rotate through the hospital.
The Terms and Conditions of service are those determined by the new Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004 and is offered on an 8 programmed activity basis. Applications from individuals who may wish to work less programmed activities or job share basis will be considered. Opportunities may exist for Extra Programmed Activities subject to service requirements. The post will involve participation on the 9am-5pm on-call rota (1 in 6 when all consultant posts filled), 7 days per week.
Applicants must have Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice, and must be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of CCT or CESR at the date of interview.
