NHSGGC has successfully obtained Scottish Government funding to develop a three year AHP Long Covid Service, which will see the development of a team of highly skilled Advanced Practice Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. In the first instance funding is confirmed for 15 months but it is anticipated this will be extended. The AHP Team will comprise 1wte band 8A AHP Team lead, 7.5wte Advanced Practice AHPs. Two of which will be Advanced Practice Physiotherapists; one post will focus on Respiratory Care while the other will focus on Condition Management. There will also be associated HCSW and administration staff providing a GGC wide service to all General Practices within the geographical area as well as Secondary Care Services who have managed long covid patients in the absence of this team. The Occupational Therapy Advanced Practitioner post requires the post holder to evidence competencies within the NMAHP four pillars of practice. The post holder will have specialist skills in the management of long term conditions where it is likely that both physical and mental health is compromised and as such patients will require a multi-faceted treatment programme that is focused on Supported Self- Management techniques and brief interventions both individually and within clinical groups. The post holder will have knowledge and training in the use of Quality Improvement Methodology and will be able to evidence the use of these to improve services locally. With the drive and enthusiasm to work as part of a small AHP team supporting the establishment of a long covid service for people who will have been impacted physically, emotional and psychologically by long covid. The post holder will work with the adult and older adult populations.
The post holder will be responsible for compiling and collating relevant clinical data based on pre and post outcome measures and patient satisfaction with the service. Contributing to reports for the health board and Scottish Government and increasing our understanding of the long term impact of covid.
Evidence of ability to work as a team player with excellent communication skills and an evidence of emotional intelligence are both essential for this post.
