                   About the Role

We are now looking to appoint a new Lead Nurse Older People and Stroke Service’s –South Sector to join our senior nursing team.   

This dynamic and highly visible role offers a tremendous opportunity for the new post holder to become an important member of our senior leadership team with the opportunity to help set direction, drive quality improvement and professional standards.

Partnership working is critical to the role and as one of a team of 3 Lead Nurses you will also have the benefit of being part of a wider team of 19 Lead Nurses within the South Sector.

As well as a real focus on nursing and quality, the post holder will work with the other members of the senior team to deliver our financial, performance and staff governance agendas.

Our new Lead Nurse will also have an opportunity to have a key and important role supporting how we deliver new and existing service developments such as Thrombectomy, Frailty At The Front Door and Hospital at Home services.

The role will prioritise clinical and managerial leadership which inspires and motivates nurses within our Older People and Stroke Service’s delivered from the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus. The post holder will ensure the objectives and quality standards of NHS Scotland’s National Quality Strategy and  National Nursing and Midwifery Quality Assurance Framework are achieved and any future national initiatives.

    The Person

The role requires an exceptional candidate who will come with the experience necessary to provide a visible leadership presence to support the clinical teams in their implementation of all clinical standards and has the credibility to influence colleagues at all levels.

We are seeking someone who can demonstrate the drive and determination to succeed in an ever changing and fast paced environment within Older People and Stroke Service’s.  Our ideal candidate will be someone who can inspire others and lead by example, promoting a culture of continuous quality improvement which values continuous professional development and strives for excellence in all aspects of the delivery of patient care. 

Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) with significant post qualifying experience in a senior nursing role such as Senior Charge Nurse/Midwife/Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist. A master’s degree level including qualifications in leadership is desirable. Evidence of continuing, relevant professional and personal development is essential.

It is an essential criteria that candidates hold a live /current UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) PIN registration.

   About the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital 

A 1,677-bed acute hospital located in Govan , south-west of Glasgow .

Opened in 2015 the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is built on the site of the former Southern General Hospital  and opened at the end of April 2015. The hospital comprises around 1,109-bed adult hospital, a 256-bed children's hospital and two major Emergency Departments; one for adults and one for children.

The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital  campus  includes  a Maternity Unit, the Institute of Neurological Sciences, the Langlands Unit for Older People’s Services in addition to a purpose built Teaching and Learning Centre and Laboratory.

While some parts of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital have their own distinct identity and dedicated specialist staff, such as the  Royal Hospital for Children , each is completely integrated with linkages for patient transfer, diagnostic services, emergency care and a rapid access lift from the emergency helicopter pad on the roof of the adult hospital.

The campus is well serviced with good public transport links and is located close to the M8 motorway network as well as located in close proximity to one of the West of Scotland’s largest retail /entertainment hubs at Braehead.
