The Specialist Drug and Alcohol Service (SDAS) are a compassionate team, with the people that we serve at the centre of everything we do. The service actively promotes personal development for its staff, encouraging innovation across the workforce and providing a number of opportunities such as Non-Medical Prescribing. The post holder will be expected to provide recovery orientated, trauma informed, person centred care through the delivery of a range of care and treatment options for individuals who experience difficulties with alcohol and/or drugs and to ensure those individuals in the greatest need are prioritised in terms of access to co-ordinated services.

The team is based at FOCUS Wellness and Recovery Community Hub in Dumfries and is made up of 3 x Drug and Alcohol Liaison Nurses, 2 x Assertive Outreach Nurses, 1 Addiction Specialist Nurse, 2 Healthcare Support Workers and our very supportive administration staff. The team works collaboratively with colleagues from We Are With You, ensuring the best possible outcomes for all patients.

The mainstream SDAS site is at Lochfield Road, where there is an extensive specialist team at the unit and in the community. Team members include: • Service manager • Addictions Consultant Psychiatrist • Advanced Nurse Practitioner • Pharmacists Administration staff • Non-Medical Prescribers • Mental Health and General Adult trained Addiction Nurses • Associate Practitioners • Health Care Support Workers • Support services.

The successful candidate will be joining a forward thinking, solution focused team who work hard to support the people we serve. The teams work with some of the most challenging , disadvantaged and stigmatised people in our society, so it is key that we know when to relax and have a bit of fun whilst being caring and compassionate to each other. It is essential you are either a registered Mental Health or General Adult Nurse with current NMC registration and can demonstrate experience of working with individuals, families and carers who find themselves affected by substance use.

Part of the role includes Assertive Outreach, it is therefore essential that applicant holds a current Driving Licence.

The post is currently 30hrs per week usually 4 days per week, between Monday and Sunday (flexible working will be considered) and the hours worked are normally 8.30am to 5.00pm.

The post is open to band 5 nurses as a band 6 development opportunity. This post requires membership of Disclosure Scotland's PVG Scheme.
