MRI Modality Lead – Band 7 - Imaging
South West Sector, Diagnostics Directorate
The South West Sector is currently inviting applicants to join a team of MRI Modality Lead Radiographers at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, this post includes rotation and responsibility for MRI at Gartnavel General Hospital and the New Victoria Hospital. This is an opportunity for an experienced, hardworking individual to join the MRI Service.
The QEUH is the largest acute hospital in NHSGGC, within the South West Sector there is cross site rotational model enabling staff to develop a breadth and depth of knowledge and skills across scheduled and unscheduled care as modality lead the successful candidate will be required to participate in this rotation.
The QEUH is the largest acute hospital in Scotland and the designated Major Trauma Centre for the West of Scotland within the Major Trauma Network and the designated site for stroke thrombectomy, supporting services with 2 1.5T wide bore Siemens Aera MRI scanners, undertaking a large variety of complex acute imaging such as; cardiac, major trauma, vascular, oncology and orthopaedics. Within the QEUH campus the Institute of Neurological Sciences hosts Siemens Vida 3T and Siemens Sola 1.5T undertaking all specialist imaging be it emergency, or planned for stoke, neurosurgery, neurology and spinal specialities.
Gartnavel General Hospital’s Philips Ingenia 1.5T MRI undertakes a host of imaging with a mixture of inpatient and outpatients undertaking complex imaging for colorectal, gynaecology, oncology and orthopaedics along with routine follow-up imaging. Within Gartnavel campus the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer centre is located has a GE HDX 1.5T MRI, undertaking all aspects of oncology imaging of both inpatient and outpatients, the Gartnavel campus also covers the emergency cord compression service for the West of Scotland oncology.
The New Victoria Hospital is an ambulatory care hospital. Within the imaging department we have a Philips Achieva 1.5T and Siemens Aera 1.5T, these scanners undertake outpatient MRI imaging from a broad spectrum of specialities, all specialist breast MRI imaging is undertaken at the New Victoria Hospital for the South West sector.
The successful candidate will work closely with the local management team and existing MRI modality leads to deliver a quality patient focussed service and lead on staff training and development in those areas.
The QEUH has a strong working relationship with the local university and we host a total of 95 student clinical placements in an innovative learning environment. You will liaise closely with the university and practice educators to ensure a high quality training environment for all undergraduate and post graduate students on placement whilst having a commitment to supporting and developing staff.
We actively promote opportunity for further study at a post-graduate level leading to MSc Diagnostic Imaging in CT, MRI or MSc Advanced Practice, allowing you to underpin your key area of interest whilst enhancing patient care, experience and your knowledge at Glasgow Caledonian University, (NHSGGC operated a staff bursary each year to assist those who wish to progress into post graduate study). Within the department and the wider MDTs we engage and participate in quality improvement groups which we encourage staff of all levels to get involved in where appropriate. NHSGGC radiographers host a CPD channel on Microsoft Teams where there are weekly CPD sessions SOR accredited, all sessions are recorded and can be listened to retrospectively.
You will be key to the development and implementation of clinical and professional standards e.g. review of imaging protocols in line with best practice, local and national protocols.
You will be responsible for day to day management, overseeing quality assurance standards to ensure they are effected, documented and acted on as appropriate. You will play an active role in helping NHSGGC meet NHS Scotland waiting time targets.
