There is 1 WTE Band 7 Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner post fixed term for 1 year available in Midlothian Community Respiratory team (MCRT).

MCRT treats COPD patients in the community, preventing hospital admissions, treating acute exacerbations at home and optimising respiratory care in a holistic way. The team consists of Specialist Physiotherapists, a dietician and a Psychologist. We have also recently developed a pathway supporting patients with other Respiratory diseases home from hospital and we are working on a pathway for Bronchiectasis patients. We accept referrals from GPs, hospital staff, SAS and community health care professionals.

We have recently developed our use of technology within the team and are keen to use healthcare innovations to improve patient care and knowledge. We have been trialling a COPD self management app called Dynamic Scot in partnership with the Scottish Government, GGC, and Storm ID which is helping us gather more information about our patient cohort. We have implemented Near me video conferencing and assisted digitally excluded patients to access technology through the Connecting Scotland project.

We aim to treat COPD patients at the right time and in the right place by providing high quality, evidence based care with excellent links to our Respiratory colleagues in Secondary Care.

To supervise Physiotherapists, assistant practitioners, clinical support workers and students.

To deputise for the team lead in meetings related to specialist clinical area.

To develop and deliver training programmes for a wide range of professionals and carers to increase knowledge and understanding of both the therapy process and any intervention relating to the management of patients medical and social needs.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
