An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the excellent team in ward 1a

The unit has 10 day surgery recovery beds, with 19 inpatients beds, 4 of which are designated for overnight sleep studies. Patient numbers are made up of both emergency and elective minor cases requiring surgical intervention. High quality care is delivered in a safe and supportive environment, which meets identified physical and psychosocial needs. A family centered approach to care is adopted at all times.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical 1. To provide a high standard of nursing care within the clinical area to ensure that patient needs are assessed, care planned, implemented and evaluated, and that there is consultation and involvement of patient/carer. 2. Responsible for maintaining patient records within agreed standards and ensuring high quality record keeping within area of responsibility. 3. Contributes to the development of programs of care, and provides advice to junior staff concerning the treatment of complex patient groups. 4. To delegate staff with due regard to individuals capabilities utilizing available skill mix appropriately. 5. To ensure that patient care is individualised to encompass spiritual and cultural needs of the child and family. 6. Provide the shared objectives of the multidisciplinary team by working closely to ensure that best practice is achieved. 7. Promote the interface between hospital and community to provide a seamless service for the child and family.

Management 1. In the absence of the senior charge nurse/deputy assume responsibility for the management of daily operational responsibilities in the ward, including the deployment and supervision of staff to ensure smooth running of the ward. 2. Workload is determined by the needs of the service. The post holder will be responsible to the senior charge nurse for clinical guidance and professional management, work review and formal appraisal of performance. 3. Demonstrate an awareness of effective use of resources, including staff, supplies and departmental budget 4. Reports untoward incidents to senior colleagues 5. Assist in the management of nurse staffing, bed management and incident reporting issues, communicate changes to the hospital clinical coordinator
