An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified person to apply for this position working in a small and dynamic public health directorate. NHS Dumfries and Galloway serves a population of around 150,000 and is located in the beautiful south west corner of Scotland, with easy access to road and rail links to the rest of Scotland and to North West England. 

The post holder will undertake a senior role within the team and will provide strategic and operational nurse consultant level leadership for the Health Protection department.  As part of the Consultant team the post holder will also provide strategic leadership for Public Health programmes or areas of activity to make sure that they effectively influence policies and actions to protect the population of Dumfries and Galloway 
 
The post holder will also provide line management and professional leadership for the Health Protection Nursing team and professional leadership for the NHS Dumfries and Galloway Vaccination Nursing team

This post is a demanding one and the post holder will be expected to have a high level of leadership and collaboration skills to enable effective working across organisational boundaries and to influence change without direct authority. 

It is a requirement of the post that the post holder take part in both in-hours and on-call arrangements for communicable disease control/health protection. The current rota is 1 in 5 (prospective). The post holder is required to have sufficient training and experience to be a “competent person” under the Public Health etc. (Scotland) Act, 2008 or be able to become a “competent person” in a reasonable timeframe.
