Technical Programme Manager, Band 8B
Permanent 37.5 hrs per week
Salary £63,530 to £68,223 

Applications are invited for the post of Technical Programme Manager within the Laboratory Genetics department, which forms part of the West of Scotland Centre for Genomic Medicine. The department provides a high quality genetics service to the West of Scotland, population 2.7 million, and to the whole of Scotland through the Scottish Genetic Laboratories Consortium and the Scottish Molecular Pathology Consortium.  Based at the state of the art Laboratory Medicine building at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, the Laboratory Genetics department is responsible for the testing of inherited genetic disease and acquired genetic disease (solid and haematological malignancy). 
The successful applicant will be responsible for the operational and strategic management of the Technical Programme, overseeing a broad range of highly complex genetic testing pathways which requires constant monitoring and adjustment according to changing resources and includes workload allocation, disciplinary and pastoral duties. They will have responsibility for the validation of diagnostic tests and all diagnostic equipment and are required to take a lead role in the planning, selection, procurement, replacement, purchase, evaluation, and commissioning of highly specialist laboratory equipment. They have overall responsibility for ensuring the technical remit maintains UKAS accreditation against current ISO standards and are responsible for promoting these and Health & Safety standards across the team. They are required to perform highly complex troubleshooting and to assist in the management of dealing with and resolving complaints. They are required to assist the Senior Management team in managing the laboratory budget and they lead in negotiations with suppliers. They will provide managerial, scientific and technical leadership to a highly skilled team to ensure the delivery of a high quality diagnostic genetics service for both germline and somatic genetic disease.

It is essential that they are state registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), or equivalent have an upper second or first class honours degree in a relevant scientific subject and be in possession of a higher qualification such as Masters degree or equivalent. They should have extensive experience in a genetics diagnostic laboratory, the technologies used for testing genetic disease (molecular genetics and/or cytogenetics),and have extensive experience with managing and directing staff.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday - Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm.
