An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Safeguarding Midwifery Team for highly motivated and enthusiastic Midwife to develop and deliver a specialist service for a designated client group within the wider maternity service provision.

You will be the named professional and caseload holder providing continuity of care for women with identified vulnerability in accordance with NHS Ayrshire and Arran ‘The Pathway for Responding to vulnerability in pregnancy’ multiagency guidance. This will involve collaborative working with health and social care partnership and other third sector agencies, attending child protection case conferences and core groups to implement early intervention to safeguard the unborn baby. 

You will provide antenatal and postnatal care to your allocated caseload in line with the Best Start initiative.  As a specialist role, you are responsible for assessing and responding to risk in relation to child protection while building a therapeutic relationship with expectant parents to support them throughout the process.

To apply you must be an NMC registered midwife, educated to degree level. Ideally you will have two years post-registration experience with evidence of professional development and an interest in Child Protection.

We are a passionate, supportive and progressive team who are committed to service improvement. The team is made up of a Senior Charge Midwife for Safeguarding, 4.8 WTE Safeguarding midwives, 1.0 WTE Maternity Care Assistant and 0.8 administration assistant. We offer a robust mentorship programme to support new members to the team. You will be allocated a mentor to support your learning and practice for a period of time which will be mutually agreed. Following this mentorship period you will work with minimal supervision but within a team who adopt a supportive and reflective learning culture and peer supervision models to support the complex nature of this work. We are committed to staff wellbeing and supporting professional development. 

Hours: 30 per week

A car driver/owner is essential.
