The Tayside Medical Science Centre, (TASC), was established in 2010 to combine the world-class research strengths of NHS Tayside and the University of Dundee and to catalyse the design and delivery of clinical research in a safe and effective manner. TASC is a core part of the NHS Research Scotland, (NRS). NRS supports clinical research through partnership working between the Chief Scientist Office (CSO) of the Scottish Government Health Directorate and Scottish Health Boards. NRS works with Scottish Universities and other organisations to ensure that Scotland provides a highly supportive environment for clinical research.

TASC's role is to facilitate trusted, high quality and innovative clinical research to improve the health outcomes of the people of Tayside and beyond.  This mission is guided by 4 key values:

The scope of the post is wide ranging encompassing strategy, management, staff governance and financial planning. You will be responsible to the NHS Tayside R&D Director for the delivery, development and implementation of the TASC strategic, business and operational plans (see  https://www.dundee.ac.uk/tasc/about/five-year-strategy/ )

You will represent TASC on a number of key national committees and will make decisions and commitments on its behalf.   The Senior R&D Manager provides leadership and vision to the TASC and its partners. You are responsible for ensuring that clinical research is conducted in line with legislation and government guidance, is cost effective in use of public funds, and delivers the required outputs to meet organisational and national targets. You will be tasked with overseeing and delivering a management and staff governance framework that creates a supportive and productive environment for R&D staff and researchers wishing to perform clinical and translational science in NHS Tayside and the University of Dundee. 

Qualified to post graduate level or equivalent qualification, you will have experience in the field of health/life sciences, preferably with academic and/or industry experience. A high level of diplomacy, political awareness and excellent negotiating skills are essential. Prospective candidates should have significant experience in management of large teams and/or projects in the NHS ,academic or health/life sciences industry at a senior level; knowledge of current R&D and Innovation agenda within healthcare; a high level of, strategic, technical, and leadership skills; a proven track record and an ability to translate  complex scientific findings into easily understood concepts.  You should have post graduate level or equivalent qualification in health/life science and an MBA or equivalent qualification and experience is highly desirable. 

You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment.
