This is an opportunity to join East Dunbartonshire’s committed and innovative Children & Families Team. We are currently recruiting for a Dental Health Support Worker (DHSW) who will be responsible for delivering dental health promotion as part of the Child-smile programme in line with the National Dental Health Improvement Strategy. East Dunbartonshire is an area with both pockets of community affluence and deprivation/vulnerability.
The post holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary-team to support families and individuals to improve nutrition and oral health targeted by Dental Public Health programmes.
The post holder will work under the direction and supervision of the Band 7 Health Visitor/Team Leader to provide individual interventions identified through a structured care plan. These interventions are designed to support families and individuals with identified risks, to maintain and develop relationships with their children and carers, whilst developing their own oral health support skills.
The post holder will work across a range of settings including the family home, childrens residential care establishments, community and primary dental service settings. The post holder will facilitate access to oral health promotion, dental preventative and treatment services through all Dental Public health programmes.
The shift pattern is; Monday – Friday, 08.30am – 16.30pm
Key essential qualifications, experience and skills;
- Full driving licence &
- SVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent experience
- The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Ability to work without direct supervision
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- IT skills-word processing/email/internet
- Good communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Experience in working with children, young people and families
Basic Training and Continuous Professional Development
- It is a requirement that the post holder successfully completes NHS GGC/HCSW Induction and children and Families specific induction. This includes training in the use of National Practice Model and EMIS system.
- The post holder will be expected to undertake continuous professional development.
