Salaried GP – Prisons

Part time 10 hours per week 
Salary Scale - £81,419 to £92,959 per annum pro rata


Applications are invited from General Practitioners to provide medical care to the prison population in Forth Valley. This is a part time post, with sessions at HMP Glenochil, HMP Cornton Vale and HMP&YOI Polmont. 

In addition to providing general medical services, the post holder will be supported and enabled to develop additional expertise specific to the prison healthcare setting.  As post holder you will work within a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals for all elements of work undertaken.

You will help to audit and evaluate the current model of care with an aim to support the development of future guidelines and improved ways of working, linked with the evolving model of care within Forth Valley.  As well as the post providing an opportunity to develop your own skills, you will support and provide mentorship within multi-disciplinary teams allowing the development of extended roles in areas such as Independent Prescribing and Advanced Clinical Assessment. 

As an experienced General Practitioner you will require to hold a Certificate of Prescribed Experience from JCPTGP or equivalent and be on, or be eligible for, the NHS Forth Valley Performers List.  RCGP qualification is preferred.

Applicants will be registered with the General Medical Council and the General Practitioner Register by the time of appointment. Applicants are required to have evidence of recent continued academic and professional development. Excellent, communication, listening and organisational skills are essential.
